Making the Poster

For the poster, again, following the theme of Purple space, I found an image to use for the background (to allow for brand identity to be used)

I then added the two daisies that were the main focus for the advert, with one of the daisies being full on the right side, and the daisy on the left with the petals floating about the poster.
I then added the text, the Artist name at the very top of the poster with the album title in larger text underneath it, and the release date (simply just 'out now') under the daisies alongside a small icon of the actual album cover considering the album cover and the poster are similar but not exactly the same but still slightly different.
Finally I added the information at the bottom which included the website/facebook page/twitter and the record label copyright and either side of the corners I've added the record company logo and the parental advisory label.

Making the Digipak

For the Digipak, I began by finding the base background images which for our idea, used space with a purple base colour. I also cropped out part of the bottom right image and stretched it across the guidelines to use for the spine of the Digipak

Considering that the album is called 'Daisies of the Galaxy' obviously using daisies as a theme in our Digipak was a must have, so going along with James idea, for the front cover is a daisy with the earth in the centre of the daisy, and for the back cover, daisy petals flying about, and also a large daisy is placed in the top left corner where the CD of the album would be placed

I then added the necessary labels such as the parental advisory label on the front cover, a barcode on the back and also the record labels logo above the barcode. Also on the inside cover of the album I added four screenshots from the album, some of them being out takes of clips that weren't used in the film such as when someone started laughing or a scene was shot wrong.

Finally I added the text for the Title, the tracklist and the legal information. The font I used is called Cinema Gothic BTN Shadow and I used this because I thought it fitted well with the theme of space what with the lettering being quite bold and standing out. At first I had a bit of trouble with getting the text colour right for the list of songs as black didn't really stand out well so I decided to copy the text and make the copy text white and over-layed it on the back text so that it had a sort of background to come off of and the text was more visible this way

Here is the final image of the Digipak

Poster Drafts and feedback

The first draft we had for our poster was similar to the inside CD holder with a daisy covering the majority of the poster, with the title and release date/information on the top and bottom of the poster.

The second idea we had was to have the daisies similar to the original Digipak cover which would have 2 daisies on the poster with a purple space background and one of daisies petals floating across the poster

We then got feedback for our two ideas and took a vote, overall the class decided that the second idea would be the better idea to use for our poster as it connected better to the actual Digipak which allowed for Brand Identity to be used.

Brand Identity

Brand Identity Definition: How a business wants a brand's name, style, logo and other visual elements to be perceived by consumers. To put it into an example, We can tell just by looking at the logo shown below is easily recognizable purely from it's design

We automatically associate this with McDonalds as over the years we have seen the logo across every single one of their restaurants and the logo even gaining the name of "The Golden Arches"

An Example of Brand Identity being used in Music Advertisements is shown below
This is the Magazine advert for Mika's second album "The Boy Who Knew Too Much"
Below is the Cover of the album

As you can see the Album cover is a cropped image of the Magazine advert so it is easy to link the two together, this is a prime example of Brand Identity as we can see that they are the same image and the font of the type is the same, the only difference being that the Album is only a cropped version.

Conventions of our genre's advert

Adverts for albums allow for the Album to be advertised across different media platforms such as magazines/social media sites etc which gets a wider target audience knowing about the album release.
Some of the elements that are included in adverts are:

- Album Title
- Artist name
- Image relating to the Album cover (normally it's the actual front cover image or an image that is similar)
- Small icon of the album cover (if the poster image isn't the same as the cover at all)
- The band's website
- Explicit Content label (if needed)
- Record Label Logo
- Copyright information
- (occasionally) Tour dates
- Release Date/s

Here are some analysed examples of Album posters and their covers.

Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History
This is the poster for the album cover which is the base image that is used for the album cover as seen below although the artist name is only across the top of the poster rather than over the cat in the centre. The poster also mentions that the album - tourist history - is their debut album, meaning that it's their first album release and also mentions the single that is included, the date when the album is released as well as information about the deluxe album and what will be included (such as a new song/remixes and documentary footage and when that will all be released.

Tour dates are also shown on the poster and it also shows that all of the shows are already sold out, this could portray to the target audience and people in similar target audiences that the band is already growing to be popular even though this is their first album release. The record logo is also shown at the very bottom of the image as well as Two Door Cinema Club's website just under the tour dates.
This is the album cover for Tourist History, we can see that the image is the same as the poster which allows for Brand Identity to be linked with the two, although this album cover tends to break the stereotype of the Album name being the main text that is seen, on this cover, the artist name is the text that takes up the majority of the centre of the image, with the album name in smaller text at the bottom of the image.

Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto
This is the poster for Coldplay's most recent album 'Mylo Xyloto'. The image is slightly different to the actual front cover of the album, in the sense that the background with all the graffiti is the same as used in the album, although we only see the outline of the album name, whereas on the album cover, the first letters of both words used in the title - those being M and X -  are transparent holes on a grey cover which show through to the graffiti image. The poster has the release date - October 24th - and it also has information telling that if the album was pre-ordered through iTunes, then the hit single that's included in the album 'Paradise' will be delivered immediately, which can be used as a good way to entice people to want to pre-order the album instead of waiting for it to come out as they are offering a special deal that can only come with pre-ordering the album. The original album cover is shown below.

Muse - The Resistance
The final analysis is from Muse's album 'The Resistance'. As we can see the name of both the Artist and Album are clearly stated at the top of the poster in bold text, making it stand out better, along with the cover of the album as the image although the poster version of the image is slightly zoomed in so that the image covers the entire poster whereas on the front cover of the album, the image is a circle that takes up the majority of the cover, and the rest of the image is filled in grey along with the artist name in the top left corner. Although the cover and the poster look slightly different, the same image is used therefore allowing for brand identity to be used as this image is now easily linked back to Muse's album. The poster also includes the release date at the bottom of the poster, the artists website in different languages, the record company's logo and a QR code in the right hand bottom corner.
