Pitch

Here is our pitch for our music video with the feedback and some rough ideas for the video.

At first, we had difficulty deciding the song choice as we ended up being stuck between two songs "Diplomat" By Swimming with Dolphins (an electronic genre) and "Mr. E's beautiful blues" By the Eels (an Alternative Rock genre). After pitching these two songs to our class and asked them to decide, the majority had voted for "Mr. E's Beautiful blues" which is our final song choice.
We are happy with our song choice as the lyrics allow for a lot of creativity and interpretation of the lyrics to be included into our ideas for the video instead of following the story which the lyrics would originally portray.

Another pro about our song choice would be that the target audience could be quite a vast range, we managed to pin a broad range from 14-40+. The reason for this is that The Eels aren't a modern band (they were formed in 1995) and so there are a lot of people who will have heard of the band and their songs, making it a lot less of a complex audience to target for our video especially considering that the audience isn't really gender specific.

The clothing style will be based around the 80's, baggy, casual clothes, red, black and blue being our main theme of colours for the video, so that it can stick more around the Alternative Rock theme, keeping bright and dark colours.

The overall meaning for our song choice is basically explained by no matter what happens, with all the negative events that can happen in life there's always going to be something positive which will pick you back up again. So we're aiming to really push that message across when filming our video and to make sure that message is very prominent throughout.

As mentioned we will not be following all of the lyrics but we will be taking little ideas from them such as the idea with the clown and the little girl etc.

As of current we are still planning a few things out such as actors/costumes/locations etc.

My Group and Song Choice

For the group that I will be working in for our music video I have partnered up with James Ward, and after a long debate and pitching ideas to our class-mates, the song we have chosen to create a video on is 'Eels: Goddamn right it's a beautiful day'

Here is the video containing the song (the song was featured in the film 'Road Trip' and has no official video that we have found):

And here are the lyrics to the song:

The smokestack spitting black soot into the sooty sky
The load on the road brings a tear to the indian's eye
The elephant won't forget what it's like inside his cage
The ringmaster's telecaster sings on an empty stage

Goddamn right it's a beautiful day
Goddamn right it's a beautiful day

The girl with the curls and the sweet pink ribbon in her hair
She's crawling out her window 'cause her daddy
He just don't care
Come on

Goddamn right it's a beautiful day
Goddamn right it's a beautiful day

The clown with the frown driving down to the sidewalk fair
Finger on the trigger let me tell you gave us quite a scare

Goddamn right it's a beautiful day
Goddamn right it's a beautiful day

The kids flip their lids when their ids hear that crazy sound
My neighbor digs the flavor still he's moving to another town
And I don't believe he'll come back

Goddamn right it's a beautiful day
Goddamn right it's a beautiful day

Well i don't know how you take in all the shit you see
No don't believe anyone and most of all
Don't believe me
Believe you

Goddamn right it's a beautiful day
Goddamn right it's a beautiful day

So far we have managed to come up with a few ideas and are currently in the process of getting other class-mates opinions on some ideas which we can't agree on or have different opinions about.

Brief

Our aim for this year is to create an entire music video using all of the skills that we had learned from AS-Level last year and to apply them into our filming and to improve upon them.

The music video will also be accompanied by two designs, one for a digipak cover for the album release and also a magazine advert for the digipak album itself
